where do trends come from....

This weekend, I blessed Southeastern Louisiana with my presence. So, some may say I went clubbin' others may suggest going to a bar and grill is not clubbin'. Well, people also think that certain fashion trends are only accepted in "high-fashion" places.

I guess what I am trying to say is, I did not think twice about putting on a graphic tee and skinny jeans or plaid shorts and a solid shirt. What will it take for people to realize that it's not where you are that should determine what you wear, but what you want to say? Now, I realize that all I said with the graphic and skinny was, yep I am into fashion and I will not tell you unless you ask.

Friends, I encourage you to let your wardrobe speak for you. It's okay to layer, accessorize and and buy shoes that are not like the other 6 pairs in your closet.

I love meeting individuals who know that being the best means beating the best. The same rules apply when it comes to fashion.

If one wants to look the best, you have to dress the best and just a fyi designer labels aren't gonna cut.

Tam, Deputy Executive Director of Development at City Year New York, always manages to come in accessorized and stylish. With her since of fashion and amazing smile you would confuse for a model when seen on around the city.
Tam's belt and long necklace complimented her low-rise pants all so well. Remember, your outfit is what you make!

Add your own touch....

It's important that individuals add their own touch to the outfit they are going to wear. Some may say that an accessory takes away from what one is wearing, but more often than not I i have seen both men and women walk into a store and chose the outfit displayed in the window!


How often have you walked into a party or club and have seen someone wearing the exact outfit you purchased this past weekend, or even the outfit you have on! Well, guess what? It doesn't have to be that way.

Above you see Dane Brown and Ede both sporting popular items in the market. What they have done is added accessories to alter the look. Ede used what was in to take her dress to another level. Ms. Dane did the unthinkable and wore a lengthy necklace with the ruffle sleeve dress.

So, when you are dressing for the night,

think about looking like the girl or guy next to you!

Anthony makes the vest casual.....

Anthony, an IT guy, down in Dallas, Texas goes into the office on a dress-down day and decides to dresss up the denim and t-shirt combo!

I personally think that more people should invest in the vest. It's a look that compliments an outfit and works for BOTH WOMEN AND MEN!

The converse was a great choice also. Sticking with the look of dressing the outfit down is important. Keep the outfit consistent.

Is Blue the new Black?

A few days ago, a young man contacted me about assisting him with purchasing a new suit for interviews and of course I jumped at the opportunity to outfit another young professional chasing their dreams. When I met up with the guy, he was quick to say the only input he wanted was that the suit be blue. For a guy who did not own a suit, I laughed and guarantteed him that one wish.

I ask, "Is blue the new black" only because this guy who never owned a suit and had never shopped for a suit was very adament about purchasing this blue suit. While we walked and talked about some of the places he was trying to interview, we saw more men wearing blue and gray suits than black.

While in one of the stores, we began to talk with some of the other guys who were shopping and I found it very interesting that many of them associated the once "professional black" now as the "funeral/out of date black." Apparently, even in the most conservative jobs men are wearing blue and it's actually the thing to do!

Don't be that guy-out of date! Go blue!

Professional Party Girl

Shawane Fletcher, a 24 year-old Southeastern University Nursing student, decided to jazz up her birthday outfit with the classic high-waist skirt and button down shirt. The red accessories were key and a perfect addition to the outfit!

Shawane did a great jobusing what she had to accomplish the look she wanted. More and more, I find young ladies willing to step outside their comfort zones and pair some colored shoes and accessories with their outfit. Shawane kept it simple and did not overdue it with too much color.

I believe this outfit minus a few inches on the heels would definitely be an appropiate suit for the office. One should also play with patterns. The stripes on the skirt are great and adds character to outfit!
